and... what's up with elan?
just one last thing... what's up with elan? i don't think i've ever lost this much money percentage-wise in one day. their shares dropped 30% today. man i hope they have another drug lined up to take over for this new ms drug if it gets pulled.
oh... and much thanks to the k.g. for editing my essays recently.
and that's that.
much thanks...
to all who called today or sent an email or real mail. grabbed some dinner with
leng and jay last night... low key bday. i've really been digging the low key bdays these last couple years (sign of aging i suppose). i even had an orgo lab today to celebrate the two-six. the amount of fun i had in lab (none) says just how much love i have for this bday. it's over the midpoint of the midpoint. even though things have been going downhill for me since 19 (creaky knees, etc)... this is the OFFICIAL start. i always used to think i'd have some things figured out by now... nope... still clueless.
i really wanted to catch the touring group of rent @ the cpa last week. i guess they offer front center rush tix for the touring group just like they do in nyc 2 hours before showtime. $20 can't go wrong... unfortunately i had too much work to do.
what i'd really like to do... possibly over spring break... get to an amerks game in rochester. yes alex... the same team we watched @ hsbc dressed in sabres uniform take out the avs. remember that? when you came to visit and you were all confidant the avs were gonna win? sucka! anyways... i miss watching hockey, and i guess the amerks are doing really well this year. they just broke their home win streak record with their 16th straight win @ home. they are sitting @ the top of the ahl by 5 games over the next team.
speaking of hockey... maybe i'll catch a
willie north game. maybe they'll take state again.
or... if the bulls win against miami-ohio and akron, they have a really good chance of getting an at large bid into the ncaa tournament.
that's all. i'm tired. shush... i'm old.

php... and relief
good
news for php. i love using php, it's easy to use, easy to understand, and gets things done.
i bet this
guy's parents are still pissed at him for not going to med school =p. it's great to see asians do well in a wide variety of occupations. it's good to see african americans get head coaching positions in the nfl. we still have a long way to go in terms of breaking down racial (and other) barriers, inching forwards gradually is still better than backtracking.
here's a torontoist
entry on the toronto islands. i miss em. you get such a great view of the city... it's kinda like looking @ manhattan from jersey, or brooklyn, or staten island.
this is a sad
story. does anyone know of an organization that's not religiously affiliated like doctors without borders for pharmacists?
man, i should've paid more attention in chinese school i guess. if they're gonna take over the
world, it'd help to know the language huh? instead, i forget chinese new year. i think they shoot you for that in china... or failing to attain a 100% average.
so... today i gots me some mail that puts me more @ ease. i got into the mph health services admin program here @ ub. so... i at least have a school to go to next fall... i won't be sitting around with nothing to do, wondering what i'm going to do with my failure of a life. of course if i can, i'd still like to do the pharm school thing first... otherwise i know i'll forget all my chem, anatomy, physiology, and everything else. plus, i'd be able to better focus on an applicable related interest in an mph program after pharm school. anyways... i'm still glad... ub just reorganized their health sciences programs... so there are a lot of courses that are cross registered between their business, law, and new bioinformatics school. they look pretty interesting, and i'm looking forward to taking them.
that's all for now.

and i'll be able to afford a place in manhattan... never?
not that i'd want to live in manhattan again (it was fun, got to know the city a little at a time and all but i rather like the other boroughs, i can see more of the sky when i walk down the street)... anyways...
349% increase!
speaking of new york and manhattan. i never understood why people living around nyu (west 3rd & 4th streets) complain about noise, exhuast, etc. from the nyu shuttle buses (they don't stop on those streets anymore, they were moved to broadway i think after i gradu-macated). i mean... you people live in a CITY... and not just any city... NEW YORK CITY... and not a fringe section of the city... you live in downtown manhattan! what do you expect? there are millions of people all around... AND you live by a large university with over 30k students that's squished into like 2 sq ft of space. it's not like nyu just recently moved downtown either. besides... what about the other mta buses? screw that... what about the 15 bajillion other cars and delivery trucks? what's another bus? really? anyways... this
article also mentions mister softee (whome i miss dearly)... it's an old article... i just haven't had the energy to write a good post in awhile. i don't know what it is with people now though... but people are just really sensitive. granted some people are really annoying with unnecessary noise... especially the "bassers" driving down the street. i hope they lose their hearing. however, there are some people that are just way too sensitive. a loud party once in awhile should be ok.
damn! i say
DAMN! funny thing is... with the 100:1 male to female ratio in alaska... the woman would probably find another guy.
poo.
oh no... i don't even want to know what this would look like if the
survey asked US students.
jeans. upwards of $130 for a "premium" pair of them. i just don't understand. that is 65 super mighty burritos. it's over 200 wings @ duff's. for a frickin pair of jeans. fugdat.
done.

new tunes
i've been really getting into funeral, the album by
the arcade fire recently. there are some really great songs with varied instrumentals and styles. the lyrics are great too, some english, some french mixed in (they're from montreal). you can hear a bit of many different "influences" (i don't know if they're influences at all, but i guess i'll say the sounds are similar then at times) from the talking heads, to the cure, other british new wave, one song even has a glimmer of weezer (at least to me) in it.
here's one of my favs, but i don't know what the french is...
anika,
tc, kristi, anyone who's speaks or has taken french care to shed some light? google goes blank on some of it, and i'm sure like everything you translate with google or alta vista, they get the basic words, but the phrases and phrasing or whatever is all messed up.
Une annee sans lumiere, The Arcade FireHey! The streetlights all burnt out.
Une annee sans lumieres.
Je monte un cheval,
qui porte des oeilleres.
Hey, my eyes are shooting sparks,
la nuit, mes yeux t'eclairent.
Ne dis pas a ton pere
qu'il porte des oeillieres.
Hey, your old man should know,
if you see a shadow,
there's something there.

hmmmm... so solaris 10 for x86/x64 is out. i'm thinking of putting it on my spare and testing it out... along with freebsd 5.3.
i don't know what happened with fedora, it crapped out on me. i think it was a samba windows filesharing issue from corruption during a file transfer? all i know is it messed up the journaling of the file system somehow. it's just spitting out errors now when i boot. anyone want to suggest something other than ext3? i've never really had much luck with it. i've heard good things about reiserfs.
bledsoe's gone. all around a good move. i just don't think he fits into the bills system anymore... definitely not with the personnel we have on the o-line given his immobility. not to take anything away from him though... he embraced the community here, and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. i wish more people in pro sports were like him.
does anyone remember the cartoon eek the cat? that was a long time ago.

studying makes me tired...
and i'm tired of studying. cell molecular bio test wed. blah. at least it isn't like ap bio which i took a gazillion years ago, and not an essay test. though i guess it's just as nitpicky with the m/c. i suppose my hand won't be as tired from writing as much as i can.
fedora core 3 is slick. now that i have my linux system setup, i can re-rip my cds onto those hard drives i bought oh so long ago... and maybe recover some mp3s from friends. i can also play around and redo the look of my blog now that i have a version of apache to test on.
s'all. night.

deytokerjobs
this is some
hillariousness that
t.c. sent over. man that stuff is funny... drizzop... hehe.
we've got the
cell chip to look forward to.
real
ninjas don't use guns.
the riaa are a bunch of
morons. why can't they just accept that they need to update their business model? other companies do it all the time. technology is only useful when it provides access to information (that includes music media). the music industry and the riaa want to limit access and delay advance to hold on to the "good old days".
sweet. well... not really.
this needs to happen sooner than later.

worst chinese ever
i forgot to wish everyone a happy chinese new year today. yeah... i'm a great asian like that, forgetting to be chinese and all.
well, it's still new years on the west coast, and plus the real chinese get like a couple weeks off to celebrate in the motherland... so i'm technically not late... i don't think... kinda... ok fine... be that way.

Yesterday, President Bush released his administration's proposed
2006 federal budget. The $2.6 trillion budget projects a record
$427 billion budget deficit, not including funding for Iraq and
Afghanistan. It includes increases in military spending while at
the same time proposes major cuts to domestic programs that
benefit people living in poverty.
Some of the proposed changes:
*Making permanent the tax cuts of 2001 - 70% of which benefited
the wealthiest 20% of U.S. citizens
*The elimination of block grants that aid poor communities
*Making it more difficult for working poor families with
children to be on Medicaid
*A $355 million cut to programs that promote safe and drug-free
schools
*Cuts to housing and urban development programs
*The elimination of 48 educational programs
Budgets are moral documents. This administration's proposed
budget reflects a set of priorities that stand in clear
opposition to biblical values. Paying attention to the poorest
among us is arguably the most central biblical imperative-not
increased spending on nuclear warheads and tax cuts for the
rich.
When considering a document as important as this one, it is
imperative that our leaders consider its impact on people living
in poverty. Urge your members of Congress to consider this
budget's effect on the poor.

people need to lighten up...
seriously, what kind of woman files a claim for
this? it's terrible that we're becoming a society that is afraid of everything and everyone.
did anyone have trouble following the game tonight?
leng, jay, jimmy, and i seemed to suffer from lapses in time. it seemed like the game didn't really go in order, especially in the first half. the commercials were off too... there were a lot of really bad ones.
here's something strange. even with the not knowing where i'm gonna end up for the forseeable future, i'm pretty confident that i made the right decision in dropping the work thing and doing the school thing. i've been thinking recently that my problem is with the being sure i did the right thing. for such a long time, i wasn't at peace with so many decisions i had made, that i guess i kinda got used to having no calmness about my life. i really don't know how this is going to end up, but for the first time in quite a long time i'm at peace. sure i still have the normal worries at points, but overall... i think it was right. this doesn't take away from the fact that i still miss people in new york... and just being able to walk and disappear admist the people and buildings sometimes, which i would've loved to have done this weekend... with no studying or homework hanging over my head. soon though... i hope to be free from this period in my life.
oy, another week.
