cold thing

i've got this cold or maybe flu thing, but it's totally kicking my ass right now. i think it's most likely the flu at this point. i haven't been this sick in forever. meh.

new theory, maybe it's because my head's all in a state of shock now that there isn't long hair to keep it warm? if that's the case, i'd rather be sick... that hair was seriously bothering me.

i need a job now, and a school for next fall.

i need sleep.

photo captions

here's a photo from new years in brooklyn, with one of the greatest photo captions ever.

scheckitout

i just watched one of the more interesting movies i've seen in awhile. it's a chinese language film from 2000 titled yi yi. it's one of those reflecting-subtle films, i'd compare it to lost in translation, as it has many of those shots of the character reflecting, and breaks in dialogue... but as a whole i think it's more interesting that l.i.t. perhaps because the film shows the range of thoughts and feelings any of us can have on a given day.

more mister softee.

stuff on the gates in cp. wish i could see it.

i gotta hit up the albright-knox sometime here in the buff... they have a georgia o'keefe thing going on which k.b. highly recommended.

check out jim wallis' appearance on the daily show with jon stewart. it's some good stuff. and here's the sojourner's site that he's the editor for, for you progressive religious people out there.

that's it... i still need meds.

night.

layin cable

if i ever get my own place, i want to gut it and hook up every room with cat 6 or 7 or whatever it'll be by then, put in a couple gigabit or 10g switches. run a linux box and configure my own pbx, tap it into a broadband connection for some multiline voip fun.

and if i do that... i might as well setup some more linux boxes as dvr's, central file serving, etc. then run a wifi network on top of everything for laptops, wireless gadgets, and misc electronics.

yeah, it's a total technerd thing to do, but i think it'd be really fun to take on a big project like this.

maybe i'll convert an extra room into some rackspace and start stacking 1u units and run a beowulf cluster just for the hell of it... or maybe not cause my electric bill will go through the roof for the AC needed to cool all those units... unless of course i made use of the basement.

cool, but i wish it was done before so you wouldn't have to keep buying the same titles over and over cause you scrachted something. it sucks how the man is ALWAYS taking your money.

i hope they continue in the tradition of sega sports. sega sports has always come up with the most fluid games. i don't think you tend to notice it as much in football, but they're hockey games are far better than ea and espn.

gary bettman is a failure at being commissioner (for reasons other than not demanding a review for the hull foot in crease incident). somebody, PLEASE replace him. why there are hockey teams in phoenix, nashville, and TWO in florida, i have no idea. i also don't understand nhl players wanting more money. the average salary was $1 million... how's that not enough? if the avg nhler plays for 1 to 3 years and invests their money wisely, they're pretty much set for life. the rest of us have to slave away for 40+ years and we MIGHT be set. greedy bastards.

i've been listening the stills lately. they're from montreal and have a couple good songs. they're a mix of sounds, but i like their british type duran duran meets the cure meets i don't know what else tracks. speaking of the cure, i've been in the mood to listen to em lately too, but i lost most of my stuff by em when my hard disk died a couple months ago =[.

i need meds. i'm going to sleep.

uncle me?

congrats to mo & karen who have a new baby boy in their family, and to avital who has a baby brother now! it's totally cool and exciting. i'll have to get out to LA sometime maybe in the summer? it's been so long since i've seen them.

hmmm... how am i gonna pay for this trip? i have no idea... it's too bad i'm not smart or creative like this guy. man, i could pay off my portion of nyu with that amount. if i had this guy's job, i could pay off my parents portion of nyu, jon's columbia loans, and his med school tuition in like a week. how frickin ridiculous is that crap?

more poo.

Everyone likes to gloat, so we'll give the folks in Phoenix their due.

"We win," screamed Wednesday's front page of the Arizona Republic.

The story on Phoenix's unusually warm winter made a point of comparing its high for the day - 79 degrees - with our considerably lower high for the same day.

On top of that, we had to endure the photo of a bikini-clad student sitting by the pool at Arizona State.

"Gloating, by the way, is encouraged," the paper said, "especially if if you know someone in, say, Buffalo, N.Y., where Tuesday's high - and we use that word with a big ol' smirk - was 8 degrees."

Not bad. Pretty clever, actually. Of course, we'll remember this when they come looking for our fresh water.

-article-

frickin arizona... what's so good about living in a frickin desert? why do you even have a hockey franchise? or a football team?

sunday stuff.

got up this morn, didn't feel like going to the early morn service... so i decided to veg out for a bit and then head out a little before the 430 service to take some pics, since it was a good day for doing that. fresh snow on the ground, undisturbed, still crunchy and clean. it was damn cold though. took some of baird point, and the cpa @ the university at buffalo's north campus. i wanted to wander a bit more, but was already running late, and did i mention it was cold?

as i was getting out of service, there was a really nice sunset. i wanted to get a southern exposure of lake lasalle, but the roads were a bit slippery, so i didn't make it in time to get a good pic. i wandered a bit to the north, trying to find a place where i could park and still get a good pic, and i got one of the stop sign before my cam started to run outta batteries. i figured it was a good place to stop anyways... it was appropriate to say the least. i did get some good ideas for this week if the sky allows for some good shots.

dude, you are such a whitey!

so it's blizzarding outside... well not quite in buffalo, it's just snowing, visibility is still ok, not white-out conditions. however, it's blizzarding elsewhere, i think the large system cleared outta the midwest already, but new york city and new england are supposedly gearing up for it now.

so, to everyone who's been hit with the snow, and the winds... and to you guys who are getting ready for it this is for you.

2005, the year that... uhhhh... ummmm... stuff?

wait, what?

i don't know if it's a blogging hangover or something, but i haven't had anything interesting to say, er... write about. i still have the same doubts and worries and all that, but i've just gotten... more apathetic about it all if that makes any sense. it's almost like i don't care, but i do... but then again... i don't.

i screwed the pooch on the gre verbal section earlier this week. while taking the test, i stopped giving a damn halfway through the thing. the whole computerized test thing threw me off. sitting in a cubicle, in a stuffy room, staring at a monitor forever, trying to read quickly but not processing anything i was reading, having the keyboard on top of my scratch paper, not knowing what to write for the 2 essays, midway through my brain shut down. this is how it went down.

test: 5) CODICIL : WILL ::

1. Chapter: Novel
2. Appendix: book
3. Line: Poem
4. Draft: Manuscript
5. Credits: Film

me: fugit
---
test: 6) EXOGENOUS

1. intrinsic
2. essential
3. ingenuous
4. barren
5. pith

me: fugit
---
test:

In the early 9th century BC Athenian potters introduced the full Geometric style by abandoning circular for rectilinear ornament, the key meander assuming the leading role. At first decoration was restricted to a small reserved area surrounded by the lustrous dark paint; later, as the style approached maturity, more decorated zones wee added, until the potter achieved a harmonious balance between light and dark........

7) Corinthian potters were different from Athenian potters because
1. they produced smaller vases.
2. they depicted corpses on biers.
3. they showed figures of men and animals.
4. they used linear, geometric designs
5. they frequently used pictures of goats.

me: crap, i'm screwed. i'm never going to get into a school... i'm hungry too. maybe i'll get some mighty (as in mighty taco for those of you unfamiliar).
---

so that was the thing with that.

other than that, not much else has been happening. still working on some essays that are gonna be due soon. gonna chop off my hair this weekend, this dirty asian mullet thing is just too annoying. how do women find the patience to wash their hair? my hair's not even that long and everytime i take a shower i get mad. i want my < 5 min shampoo time back.

oh, and i got a package from bern the other day. i now have my very own mozilla group firefox hat. muy bien! now i can totally nerd out. maybe i can dig up my techies.com shirt, or my cisco shirt, or my (*fill in the blank*).com shirt. it all works out, no more poofy hair, hat goes on, and i don't look like a complete doof with crazy amounts of hair trying to get out from under the hat.

well, that's it for now. school starts next week. hopefully i'll get my motivation and focus back soon. hopefully things will work out, and my brain freeze goes away. hopefully... eh... fugit. =]

take care everyone. night.

go wegmans

Beyond the figures, the magazine also describes the stores' layout, product offerings and the "zeal" some upstate customers have for Wegmans that "often borders on kooky obsession."

"kooky obsession"... hmmm... i'd have to agree with that. wegmans rocks! it's just the bestest supermarket there is.

oh... yeah, the quote was from this article about how wegmans made it to #1 on forbes 100 best companies to work for.

~u~

donate to the red cross through yahoo for tsunami relief aid here.

the housing market in the US is crap, and we vote for a guy that'll give tax breaks to the wealthy... good job! the idea of raising the minimum wage is good and bad. good for the short term, but in the long run, after price adjustment, it would be the same as if we didn't raise it at all. i don't think people understand the real cost of things. it's kinda like how you used to be able to buy a soda for 5 cents, but now pay $1.25 after adjusting for inflation and present day value. still we need to find an alternative to raising minimum wage because it does not redistribute wealth. a more effective way to do this would be to tax the hell out of the people with the money... but no, for some reason we're all afraid of taxes. i don't get it.

i was watching this with ravi and storey tue night. it was funny.

man this sucks for the parents... an entire lifes worth of savings gone in a night cause of your bratty kid.

so another friend got engaged this week. congrats go out to him and his fiance. to think that only a little more than 10 years ago, we sat in science class making fun of all the annoying and stupid people in the class. eh... if it wasn't for pahade, i'd probably start thinking that i'd be the last one standing... but good thing for me... pahade's been cursed.

We Never Change, Coldplay

I wanna live life, never be cruel,
I wanna live life, be good to you.

I wanna fly, never come down,
And live my life,
And have friends around.

We never change, do we?
We never learn to leave,
So I wanna live in a wooden house,
I wanna live life, always be true,
I wanna live life, and be good to you,
I wanna fly, and never come down,
And I live my life, and have friends around.

We never chang do we? no, no,
We never learn to bleed,
So I wanna live in a wooden house,
Making more friends would be easy.

Oh I don’t have a show to say,
Yes, and I sing every single day,
We never change do we?
We never learn to leave.

So, I wanna live life in a wooden house,
Making more friends would be easy,
I wanna live where the sun comes out.

back

this was a good week in new york... i got to see lots of people, but didn't have much time with my ny crew. some people were travelling so i just missed them completely. as i was coming back tonight, i popped in parachutes... it's been awhile since i've listened to coldplay's first album, and it totally fit my mood.

things that make me sad... 1) i can't believe it's 2005. it's been 1 year since i've moved away, i feel out of the loop. 2) i'm sad because i'm far away from almost everyone. i'm sad about this tsunami thing. it just reinforces the fact that i take life for granted too often... even after i came a foot away from being fatally injured myself. now i'm usually not a happy person... but my friends always make me happy. so i wish i could be closer to all of them... but i can't right now, so i'm sad.

the bills lost, not a big surprise. the buffalo crew still cracks me up... you get us together and things get strange and ridiculous... it's a given.

well... perhaps i'll post more later. i'm tired. i hope this feeling dissipates soon.
